Global Collabs

We’ve been lucky enough to be a part of a couple of pretty cool collabs lately, stemming mostly from our involvement with the awesome Canadian bands we know. The manner in which these collaborations of effort, finance and talent came about has been one of the most inspiring aspects of running Struggletown for me so far, and it’s simple and free: Word of mouth.

Simply having a good attitude towards releasing good music, has led the people we’ve spoken to, to spread the word about us, across the world and led us to work with talented musicians who we may or may not ever meet, and to team up with like-minded labels, such as Guerilla Asso, Tragicomedy Records, Pavones Records, Juicebox Records, Bigwheel Records and many more. Expanding the reach of these releases across greater distances and wider audiences.

The sums of money that are involved are far from huge, but it’s much easier when people club together to pay production fees & shipping etc. It’s great to be involved in this process in even a very small way as a young label and a small distributor.

The key element in this chain though is you, the music buyer - if you stop buying physical format music from smaller bands and labels, the big labels will win out, because they know they have a market for digital music, they know that people will buy the special edition rereleases on record store day, because they have the power of the media, nostalgia and marketing. But we don’t - we just have ourselves, and you. But I’d rather have it that way, because if it wasn’t like that, I wouldn’t know half the people I do through music, however far away they are, and however varied our tastes.

We’ve got a lot in the pipeline, and I’ve been very distracted from this label for a while now, but I plan to change that - kick it into high gear and work hard for the bands that work hard for us. Please help us to do that, pick up a record, share a photo, come to a show. Do anything - because it’s those actions that keep this whole ‘DIY’ thing afloat.
